A woman is being treated for serious injuries after a beach umbrella flew through the air and impaled her chest in the US state of Maryland.
The 46-year-old woman was relaxing on a sun lounger in the resort town of Ocean City, Maryland, and had to be flown by helicopter to the nearest hospital.
The unnamed woman was conscious when she was taken to hospital but her current condition is unknown, said Jessica Waters, a spokeswoman for the seaside town.
The incident occurred in the popular town on Sunday when an unattended umbrella was uprooted and swept away by a gust of wind.
“Witnesses said one gust lifted the umbrella,” Ms Waters said.
Emergency services said that bolt cutters were needed to free the 67-year-old who was taken for treatment at a nearby hospital.
