Sajid Javid’s first budget delayed as Boris Johnson focuses on Middle East crisis

The first post-Brexit Budget will be delayed by a month, as Boris Johnson turns his focus to the crisis in Iran.

The Prime Minister originally vowed to set out the Government’s economic agenda in February as an election pledge, but it will now be held on March 11.

Mr Johnson spoke to the Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi of the need to “deescalate tensions in the region” on Monday and will hold a meeting of the National Security Council today (Tues), a No 10 spokesman confirmed.

A Treasury source insisted the change was nothing to do with escalating tensions in the Middle East following the death of Qasem Soleimani, and said the new Budget date was originally decided on back in December….
