Ever since the Mae Young Classic concluded, fans have been wondering which standouts from the tournament would be signed by WWE. Dave Meltzer has now provided an update on a few different personalities and their deals with WWE in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Candice LeRae has not been signed yet, but she has appeared as an enhancement talent for NXT in the meantime. Toni Storm and Piper Niven were both told by WWE that they would keep in touch with them, but neither have heard from the company since tournament. Japanese wrestler Io Shirai was not signed due to numerous injuries that were discovered during her medical tests, but she apparently has a heart condition which has been cited as the main reason why WWE passed on her.
Brock Lesnar vs. Jinder Mahal will be taking place at Survivor Series this month, and it will be the first time that the two current world champions have ever faced each other in a singles match before. It was previously reported that WWE was working on getting either Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, or The Rock to serve as a referee for the match. A promotional poster for this year’s event was leaked online recently, and the poster clearly shows John Cena positioned between Mahal and Lesnar while dressed as a referee. This would seem to indicate that Cena will indeed be returning at the pay-per-view to officiate the match. Roman Reigns, who has been out of action with the mumps, is also featured on the poster.
Triple H recently returned to the ring during a WWE live event held in Glasgow, Scotland. He teamed with Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins as a member of The Shield for one night, but Triple H was not the only person to make his return to the ring that night. Triple H and The Shield faced off against Cesaro, Sheamus, and a returning Bray Wyatt. Wyatt had been out of action for nearly a month after being struck with a reported illness of the mumps. Wyatt was reportedly cleared to return earlier this week during the Raw show in Baltimore. Unfortunately, Wyatt and his team came up short in the match, which The Shield and Triple H won after hitting a Triple Powerbomb.
