Reckard, 63, was among the 22 victims gunned down Aug. 3 by a man who was apparently driven by anti-immigrant hatred. Seven of the victims killed in the shooting were Mexican nationals.
Perches Funeral Home shared Basco’s request on its Facebook page and the post has since been shared nearly 10,000 times. In the comments, mourners asked if they could send flowers and cards to show their sympathies.
Jorge Ortiz, the general manager at the funeral home, told The New York Times that they are expecting up to 1,000 mourners on Friday for Reckar’s visitation.
“When I met her she was an angel and she still is,” Basco told local news channel KFOX in the days after the shooting. The couple’s plan was to “live together and die together,” Basco told KFOX.
According to her obituary, Reckard was born in Washington D.C. On the tribute wall, people from across the country and beyond shared their condolences.
