Here is where Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka will start 2019 season

is the top seed at the ASB Classic in Auckland from December 31 to January 6. In the New Zealand tournament, the Dane reached two finals, in 2015 and 2018, respectively losing to Venus Williams and Julia Goerges.

Just the 38-year-old and the German will be some of the Wozniackis top rivals in the run for the title. Earlier this year Goerges defeated Wozniacki in a straight-set final, 6-4 7-6. Also Victoria Azarenka is committed to play.

In the previous edition the Belarusian could not play as she could not travel outside United States with her son Leo, but now the situation is very different and the former world No. 1 is ready to triumph on the biggest stage again.

Victoria Azarenka and Monica Niculescu are committed as well. It will be a really interesting draw with the likes of Vika, Genie and Monica not having protection and could draw one of the top seeds, said the Tournament Director Karl Budge.

It means Monday and Tuesday will see Caroline, Goerges, Venus, Vika and Genie playing across two sessions. I am not sure we have had star power like that in one session as early as this before. At the WTA Finals in Singapore, Wozniacki assessed her 2018 season: I think most of the slams you get to celebrate because there is a long time before the next one.

You know, its kind of youre a slam champion or the reigning slam champion for a while. Its kind of nice. Its nice from January till — May? Its quite a long time. So its been a great year. I won my first slam.

I won in Beijing and in Eastbourne, and I think I can be proud of just the way that I have handled adversity and I have handled, you know, a lot of things this year. You know, its definitely been a tough year. I think its been really difficult, because I think, you know, there is a lot of things going on and you just have to keep grinding.

Its just great that I can finish the year and say I have won three tournaments, won my first slam, and I gave it my all here. I wanted to defend my title, but it wasnt to be. <table
