It has emerged that four of the 18 people killed in a train crash outside Brussels on 15 February were officials working in the EU institutions
Three were European Commission staff: Maurizio Munaro, who worked in the translation directorate; Laurence de Luca, who worked in the external relations directorate-general; and Noëlle Beauvais-Guénard, from the research executive agency.
Claudio Candeago from the European Parliament’s press service also died in the crash. She had been working on the reception desk of the Parliament’s press centres in Strasbourg and Brussels.
Two trains crashed as one of them coming from Leuven crossed points near Halle, south-west of Brussels. Police and the Belgian rail authorities are still investigating the cause.
