Fastlane Main Event Details, Carmella Tries to Cash In, Rousey

The Royal Rumble may be behind us now, but Raw and Smackdown each still have one more pay-per-view to go through before WrestleMania rolls around. The Elimination Chamber show will be returning for Raw, but Fastlane belongs to Smackdown this year. After the controversial ending to the 2-on-1 handicap match for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble, we already have an idea of what the Fastlane main event could be. On Tuesday’s Smackdown, General Manager Daniel Bryan announced that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will face each other on next week’s show with the winner earning a match against Styles for the WWE Championship at Fastlane on March 11th.
Carmella made history last year by winning the first-ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. She has carried the briefcase with her ever since, but she still has yet to cash in her opportunity for a shot at the Smackdown Women’s Championship. She came close to doing so on last night’s edition of Smackdown. Carmella tried to cash in her briefcase after current champion Charlotte Flair was laid out by the Riott Squad. Although the Philadelphia crowd was behind her, Carmella’s potential title match was halted after she accidentally kicked the referee as he was attempting to make the match official. Once he recovered, Carmella decided against cashing in her Money in the Bank contract.

Ronda Rousey finally arrived in WWE on Sunday night’s Royal Rumble event when she confronted Asuka, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, and Stephanie McMahon before pointing at the WrestleMania sign. It has since been reported that the plan is for Rousey and a partner to team up against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania. Fans may remember that Rousey appeared in the ring with The Rock, Triple H, and Stephanie McMahon for a segment at WrestleMania 31 back in 2015. It would make sense for The Rock to be named as Rousey’s partner, but PWInsider believes that the company will use Braun Strowman as Rousey’s partner instead if The Rock cannot appear for the match.
