Robert Kubica’s long-awaited return to the cockpit of a modern Formula 1 car has finally happened. And it has certainly lived up to expectations!
Kubica put in 74 laps of the Hungaroring on Wednesday morning and almost the same again after lunch. It proves that he is more than up to the physical demands of the modern cars. Now all he needs is more time in the car to finesse his lap times. He’s already almost two seconds faster than Nicholas Latifi managed on Tuesday in the same car.

But is he finally ready to make his Grand Prix comeback? And if he is, does that really mean he should actually take the place of Renault’s current number two driver Jolyon Palmer?
It’s been a terrible year for Palmer to be sure. Admittedly a lot of that has been down to technical failures and incidents beyond his control. However, two accidents in free practice before the Hungarian Grand Prix could prove to be the final straw in terms of his hopes of retaining his F1 seat.
Should Palmer be given more time to prove himself? Do you want to see him back in the cockpit of the R.S.17 alongside team mate Nico Hulkenberg at Spa? Or would you rather see Kubica make a dream comeback to the sport for the first time since the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?
It’s time for you, the fans, to make your voice heard!
